Original wartime photo of a Captain belong to the 83rd Infantry Division. The photo is taken in May 1946 in Switserland. The guy in the center is a Captain. He where his insignia on his right sleeve so he was first in the 83rd and than transfered to probably the 8th Armored Division. Original wartime photo of three US GI's. The soldiers belong to the 83rd Infantry Division, Company D (Dog Co) from the 331st Infantry Regiment. The photo is probably taken in December 1944 or January 1945. The guy in the center is a Technical Sergeant. There were four of those in a company, one in each platoon (now called a platoon sergeant). The guy to our right (who looks like he might be his brother) is a Technician Third Grade. None were authorized in a company according to TO&E 7-17 (Feb 1944), but there were 16 Staff Sergeants authorized and it is an equivalent rank. He could have been visiting from battalion as well. The guy to our left could be an officer based on the stitching on his cap. Officers had gold lining, enlisted did not. If anyone can help me with the identification of these GI's, please contact me |
